Comments about Bosmere 103 Gallon Deluxe Hot Compost Bin:
I got this composter because I did not like the way the Eco bin (which I also reviewed) has vents and the door often falls open. The vents and the door gap on the Eco bin allow fruit flies to enter the bin. The Bosmere bin is ideal for hot composting. There are no vents and no door. I turn my compost, so I like the easy access big top opening. Raccoons can not open the lid, but the lid is easy for me to open. I can compost bread products without attracting rodents. I put the fresh fruit and vegetable scraps into the bosmere bin first. Later on, after the scarps are broken down and no longer attracting flies, I put them in the vented Eco bin.
Black is the best color for a bin because black traps the most heat from the sun to speed the compost along. Everyone needs more then one compost bin because you will need a second bin to store the finished compost. A three bin system ideal. I like to always have some finished compost on hand in case I wish to amend my soil before adding a new plant or transplanting. The compost can also be used as a mulch or a top dressing. A micro bark top dressing layer can go on top of the compost layer if you wish. Compost makes my soil very easy to work, and my plants do very well. I save water with composting. A healthy soil makes plants more able to take up nutrients. Worms may freely come and go from the bin without becoming stuck on injured on a bottom grate, because there is no bottom grate. Worms improve soil and plant health. There are no cons about this bin, so I did not list any.
