Composting is a natural process that turns organic material into a dark, rich substance. This substance, called compost or humus, is a wonderful conditioner (or amendment) for your soil. It works for both indoor and outdoor plants.
What are the benefits of compost?
Organic matter is known as the “soul of a healthy soil.” Adding compost to your yard or garden soil will help your plants grow bigger and healthier. The organic matter in compost helps soil hold on to nutrients and water, benefiting your plants while reducing the risk of pollution.
Composting saves you money
Using compost as a soil conditioner or mulch reduces your need to purchase these lawn and garden products. Composting in your backyard may reduce your trash removal costs. Many sanitation companies charge customers by the bag or size of trash container. Your compost bin could decrease the number of bags your household generates.
Composting is practical and convenient
No need to bother bagging leaves and other garden/yard wastes. Simply add them to your backyard bin and watch these items turn into rich dark humus.
Composting is a good alternative to landfilling or incinerating
Yard and garden wastes account for almost 20% of the total amount of trash thrown away each year. Your choice to compost reduces the need to burn or bury organic material and increases the quality of our precious topsoil.

Because I do not aerate it is important to cut or chop up your kitchen waste. Egg shells take a long time. I have used this compost bin for about 8 years.
I have been making & using compost for a number of years.
It doesn't hurt to add a little manure(horse, cow, chicken) once in a while.
In the past I did 3 compost piles in bins aerated tossed etc....too much labor.
It does not compost quickly unless you aerate & add small bits of organic matter. I add some grass clippings & all of my summer garden waste.
I enjoy taking out my kitchen scraps.

One year after purchase I am still using this but am actively looking for a better one. The sliding door where you remove the compost from is very difficult to keep in the tracks. I have disassembled and reassemble to try and fix this problem to no avail. Turning the compost within the unit is difficult too. The designer should have had a front and back door. The little doors in the lid are cute but not practical; remove the lid to best get items into the bin. This definitely needs to be located in a spot that gets all day sun (winter time works great; summer shade slows process down to a crawl.)

Comments about Garden Gourmet 82 Gallon Recycled Plastic Compost Bin:
When the box arrived it was torn bent, ripped and the box was repaired with tape.
Product rating is a four star due to my expectations. I thought it had a bottom tray to assist with recycled material removal. The door is extremely hard to slip up and down to open. That may resolve itself after years of usage. Price to product it was a little more costly then the quality of the product received.

Comments about Garden Gourmet 82 Gallon Recycled Plastic Compost Bin:
This is a simple compost bin to operate, just put the items in the top and remove from the bottom at some point later in time. We add about 2 gallons of water weekly with an occasional dose of inoculate. We are buying a second unit to join the one we've had for several years. This is due to our recent purchase of an electric shredder/chipper for our shrubbery and need greater composting capacity.

Comments about Garden Gourmet 82 Gallon Recycled Plastic Compost Bin:
When I moved from my large home and yard to a small condo, I lamented leaving behind two wonderful and large bins, filled with lovely compost. After two years of sadly discarding kitchen and yard waste, I can once again compost. This 2' x 2' bin is perfect, tall, attractive and what you need with a small patio.

I was feeling awful having to waste all the beautiful waste from juicing. Now I can turn it into beautiful soil for my vegetable garden.
