Q1: Is this item rodent-proof?
A: If you keep a good 50/50 balance between wet and dry material added to the composter, the Envirocycle should not produce any odors at all and thus should not attract rodents. Make sure you close the door properly between each usage. Another option is to keep the composter in an enclosed place, like a garage.
Q2: How many gallons is 7 cubic feet?
A: 7 cubic feet is 15/16 of a US gallon.
Q3:
Do I have to rotate to the opening on the top to dump it out?
A:
The easiest way to dump the compost out is to take it off the base, and roll it on the ground with the door open. The compost should come out with that method and a little shaking. It all depends on the material that you are using in the compost bin.
Q4: How sturdy is the door? Will it be easy to turn when it is almost full and needs to be rotated?
A: Yes, the door is sturdy, and you should have no issues rotating it when full.
Q5: We purchased this composter and now find we have some type of yucky larvae crawling around in the compost. Is our problem that we have not put in enough brown material or is this normal?
A: Per (www.composting101.com): Some fly species lay eggs on decomposing plant material. Try adding a layer of hay to the pile and cover with screening. I've also heard that a 2 inch layer of sandy soil spread over the surface will work. Read more about effective fly control here.
