Description

Mixing is an essential part of the composting process. Regular compost bins require strenuous churning with a special tool or shovel, but not the Ecomposter. The Ecomposter 82 Gallon Recycled Plastic Resin Compost Tumbler with Base has an innovative design that takes the work out of mixing and transporting compost. All you have to do is rotate the tumbler on the stand's wheels or roll it across the ground to mix the compost materials inside. When your compost is ready, place the tumbler on the ground and roll it to any location in your yard where you need to add compost.

Designed for all seasons, this compost tumbler is made of durable 100% recycled plastic resin. Not only is this material weather-resistant and eco-friendly, but it can also be recycled again at the end of its very long life. The tumbler rests on six wheels that are attached securely to the sturdy, spider-like base. Thin air vents protrude into the tumbler interior, causing outside air to circulate and speed the decomposition process. The tumbler has easy-to-open lids of two sizes. Remove the small lid to add small amounts of compostable materials to the bin. Remove the large lid to unload finished compost and spread it on your garden or lawn.

This patented composter was engineered in Israel and can hold up to 9.49 cubic feet (71 gallons) of compostable yard, garden, and kitchen waste. If you want to reduce landfill waste and keep your plants healthy, then order this fun composter today. You can turn your food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost in as little as four to six weeks.

These things are great, especially in the hot summer. I bought a second one. The best start I have found is horse bedding from the county fair grounds. This is wood shavings and horse doo. Then I added my garden and kitchen stuff. After "filling" it each weekend, it was half full by the next weekend. I rolled them around the yard daily. Of course the items put in it now, are not so quick to break down as the weather is cooler. The only problem is, I wish I had bought the stands. Now I find these can't be purchased separately. With stands, I'd put them in the garage and keep turning, all winter.

The main reason I wouldn't recommend this product is because of the difficulty of fastening the lid after putting compost in. It makes composting a chore. It worked great when clean, but when it gets dirty, the dirt seems to get in the way of sliding the top in place. It also hasn't rolled on the base well for me, so I find it easier to roll it around on the ground. I would get a cylindrical composter next time, or just make my own.

Comments about Systems Trading Ecomposter 71 Gallon Recycled Plastic Resin Compost Tumbler with Base:

Compost bin - Took 2 people well over 3 hours to put together. Once I loaded it, it was too heavy to turn. I have to open the large door and turn with a small shovel.

Wanted to post a note to my earlier review. It took awhile to get the sphere assembled but we're really happy with it. Easy to fill, easy to roll around to mix it up and it looks like a piece of art.

Some design suggestions

Comments about Systems Trading Ecomposter 71 Gallon Recycled Plastic Resin Compost Tumbler with Base:

It does take some time and effort to assemble but if one follows directions, it can be done. The hardest part is putting the two halfs together. I found than if you inset the rivets as you go around and gently tap the middle, it works easy.

As to the rollers, well I feel a ball type of wheel would work better. Also some means of getting a good grip on the ball when spinning the unit. Once the compost gets heavy it tends to keep the ball heavy side down.

I am a retired mechanic and electronic technition and it took me a few hours to assemble.

Can't wait (for my husband!) to assemble

By Beth

from Chicago

Comments about Systems Trading Ecomposter 71 Gallon Recycled Plastic Resin Compost Tumbler with Base:

To underscore what previous reviewers have said - this is going to be quite a project to put together! It seems like there are a million pieces in the box and the assembly booklet is bigger than an appliance manual. Based on the other comments though, it sounds like it will really be worth the effort.
