We chose this composter specifically because of the design of the lid - If kept upright, it won't trap snow or rain causing the lid to freeze shut in the winter. It composts very quickly if we are diligent about tumbling it. It probably will be hard to empty out the finished compost, but we'll figure it out! We've had several kinds of composters, and it is hard to get the compost out of all of them.

I have had this exact composter for several years and have made lots of compost. It is very easy and durable. I mow up my leaves in the fall and pile them up nearby and whenever I dump a bucket of kitchen waste in I add a couple of shovelfuls of leaves. It takes longer for finished compost in winter (it is cold here) but it is much faster than my regular compost bin. It was a bit tricky to empty into my wheelbarrow the first time, but I figured out the best way and it is no problem now. After 5 years, it looks just as it did when I got it. Well worth my initial investment. I would get another one (to fill up while this one finishes cooking) but they have gone way up in price since I got mine.
