The Sun-Mar 200 Autoflow 55 Gallon Compost Tumbler is a continuous composter with a 6 bushel (50 gallon) capacity. It's excellent for composting kitchen scraps and garden trimmings. The AutoFlow system allows material to continuously flow through a special double-drum setup. Heavier material settles to the bottom. Lighter decomposed materials find their way to the top and eventually enter the inner drum. This system forces fully-composted materials out when you open the port and rotate. Dispensing compost is simple! Sun-Mar has revolutionized garden composters.
Filling the Composter - Just slide the feedport open, add waste, shut the port, and rotate the drum. The input height is only 29" on the 200 so it is easy to add new material.
Rotating the Drum - The drum rotates easily on its bearings. On the 200, turn the drum using its finger-friendly slots.
Removing Compost - When the compost drum is more than half full, unscrew and remove the output port, rotate the drum, and compost will drop into a bushel basket or other container. To remove compost when the drum is less than half full (before it has traveled back along the inner drum), open the feed port and rotate the drum.
Assembly - Just snap the cradle onto the drum bearings and you're ready to go. The optional rollers can be snapped into the cradle base making the composter easy to move on a hard surface.

The tumbler action with the sorter/strainer is a great idea but could be improved if there was a screen on the slot that receives composted material so that miscellaneous debris does not reach the exit point. I find that I still have to screen the compost as it exits the machine.

The assembly is easy [...] While it has exactly the same dimensions as the broken part, it does not latch properly. So I wonder whether that may be a general design problem. - Now it can be easily slid open, which might give access to raccoons. - Just started the composting, so cannot comment on how good and quick that works.

Relying on their manual, I tried to make this product work as it is advertised for a year and a half. I was never able to harvest mulch that did not have fresh garbage in it. The design of the of the separating system is very very simple and appears to only separate the material by size, as apposed to whether it is composted or not. Additionally, no matter how moist the mixture was inside the drum, what came out of the tube were very hard and dry balls; the result, I think, of the time it took the material to travel the length of the inner tube. I scraped my knuckles several times trying to open and close the poorly fitting lid. Before it was a year old, it began to lean to one side, and at a year and a half it completely collapsed. [...] I really wanted this thing to work, but I don't think you can do all of your composting with one tumbler, certainly not this one.

I just received my composter. East assembly. Sturdy and light weight. Great insrtuctions on getting started. Just the right size for us. Cant wait to see the results.

This is our second composter of this model. The first one tilted off its frame when it got heavy and it warped the frame permanently, so the company replaced it. Now that it's winter, the raccoons are hungrier, so they've pried the lid completely off the unit twice. We gave up composting for winter--it's just too gross to clean up rotting food all over the yard, courtesy of the raccoons. We'll try again in spring when we can bury the food under the grass clippings to mask the scent. We never had problems with this composter in the warmer seasons.

My only issue with this product was that it was ordered as a Christmas gift and when it arrived, there was a picture on the outside of the box showing what the gift was to the person I was giving it to.
Other than the surprise factor being eliminated, it is perfect!

After we used a razor knife and hairdryer to get the bearing cap to fit, all else was a breeze. We have only just started collecting our waste, so the finished product is as yet unknown, but the idea is sound, the construction seems simple and sturdy, and it will be so much easier than turning a pile of stuff with a shovel...
