What is The Worm Factory® 5-Tray Recycled Plastic Worm Composter - Green and how does it work?
This green 5-tray worm composter is a multi-tray compost system that helps manage the composting process and provides you with nutrient-rich compost for your garden. It's easy to set up and simple to use. Fill each stacking tray with kitchen scraps such as newspaper, junk mail, vegetables, fruits, egg shells, coffee grounds, paper, and cardboard into nutrient-rich compost for your garden. Most "Master Gardeners" consider worm castings to be the very best compost available. Your plants will thrive with this all-natural compost. Sorting out the undigested scraps can be a messy, inconvenient chore with ordinary worm composters. Worms start in the bottom tray and migrate upward as they break down the waste. This allows worms to separate themselves from the finished compost making it easy to add nutrient-rich fertilizer to plants and gardens without sorting worms. Additionally, nutrient-rich moisture is captured in the collection tray and can be drained as liquid fertilizer known as "worm tea".

Wilderness Boundary Restaurant purchased four composters for our new organic greenhouse. We have only used the composter for a few weeks and thus far we have utilized pounds of what would otherwise be kitchen waste. The "food" is going through and old food processor that we had on hand, this makes the worms work a lot faster. We have fed three times and the food waste has already been turned to great soil. We are still on our first layer but the worms seem very ambitious. Following the instructions was easy but a few conflicting areas such as temperature were noticed. We think the Worm Factory is great and we are now able to utilize what would otherwise be waste. We can't wait to try the worm tea when the worms really start producing our fertilizer and soil. We are impressed and we've just begun. The Worm Factory is an integral part of our organic greenhouse, it is just as important as the vegetables and herbs.

I did a lot of research before ordering the worm composter and placed the order on a Monday. Had the composter here on Tuesday and the worms on Thursday and have it all set up, which was really simple, and am excited to see the resulting compost/castings. Great customer service, prompt arrival of goods, good value, very pleased so far.

Comments about The Worm Factory® 5-Tray Recycled Plastic Worm Composter - Green:
the worm bin works well outside and inside during winter months. the design is inconspicuous but looks quite at home on a porch, patio or front stoop. the worms need very little care and once you figure out what they need in your climate, they become very low-maintenance garbage-eating-compost-making little machines. i bought one and my mother-in-law was so impressed that she ordered one for her daughters who live in a high rise in brooklyn. truly a versatile product that can work well for those in an apartment with house plants or someone with a large, rural garden.

Q1: How many worms do I need to purchase with the cascade compost bin?
A: You should purchase about 1,000 worms to start your composter. After this initial purchase, the worm count will double every three months!
Q2: I ordered worms from you and they have arrived before my composter. What should I do with the worms until I get the compost bin?
A: The worms can last up to ten days in the packaging they arrived in. (Not the best, but they will last) Give them some water when they arrive.
If you're afraid they won't make it, you can make a temporary home for them instead. Put the worms into a plastic container about the size of a shoe box or bucket. Put some shredded black and white newsprint in the bottom that has been moistened (about the amount of a rung out sponge). This will act as food and bedding until your compost bin arrives and they can be placed into their new permanent home.
